Untreated maize straw is a better substrate for cellulase production by T. reesei QM 9414 than sugar cane bagasse, journal waste and rice straw untreated or boiled with 4% NaOH for 15 min. In all experiments, Mandels and Reese medium was used, in which microcrystalline cellulose was replaced by cellulosic wastes.
