Inheritance of sensitivity to heavy metals in phytophthora drechsleri

Inheritance of sensitivity to heavy metals in phytophthora drechsleri

Transactions of the British Mycological Society 85(4): 677-682

The growth responses of parental cultures and F1 progeny of P. drechsleri on solid media containing heavy metal salts were studied. Whilst the inheritance of responses to copper, cobalt and lead appeared complex, a simple determination of zinc resistance was apparent. A sector showing increased copper tolerance was unable to transmit this character through asexual spores. Various stages of sporulation appeared much more sensitive to copper in the surrounding medium than did vegetative growth.
