Inhibition of cowpea banding mosaic virus in cowpea vigna sinensis by some phenolic acids

Salicylic acid, protocatechuic acid and gallic acid were applied through roots and foliage for the control of the banding mosaic disease of cowpea. In general, the maximum inhibition of 92% of viral infectivity was obtained when 6 sprays of gallic acid were made after virus inoculation. Maximum increase in incubation period was obtained when roots were dipped in salicylic acid for 24 h prior to virus inoculation.
