Inorganic soil phosphorus fractions and available phosphorus as affected by long term fertilization and cropping pattern in nainital tarai india

Soil samples from a long-term fertilizer experiment with rice-wheat-cowpea rotation on a Mollisol (Beni silty clay loam) were analysed for inorganic soil phosphorus fractions and available phosphorus after thirteen years of continuous application of fertilizers, manures, chemicals and cropping. Graded doses of NPK fertilizers increased the saloid-P, Al-P, Fe-P, reductant soluble P (R-P) and available phosphorus status of the soil; however, Ca-P remained at the original level. Among Al-P, Fe-P and Ca-P fractions, Fe-P showed the highest increase over the control (29.50 ppm), indicating a shift from Al-P and Ca-P to Fe-P. Al-P was found to be more important fraction contributing towards available phosphorus, followed by R-P and saloid P.
