Ion pair thin layer chromatography applications to the analysis of water soluble food dyes and possibility of data transfer thin layer chromatography high performance liquid chromatography

Preliminary evaluation of bonded thin-layers for water-soluble dye separation is reported using the ion-pair chromatographic technique. The layer equilibration with the counter-ion is performed by developing the layer with the solvent containing the counter-ion at the desired concentration. Two preliminary developments are carried out in each experiment to obtain constant retentions. In ion pair TLC, the developing conditions are unimportant and identical results were found when using 3 types of chromatographic tanks: ordinary tank, CAMAG U chamber and CAMAG linear development tank. Data transfer from high performance TLC to high performance liquid chromatography was easier in ion-pair chromatography than in reversed phase chromatography.
