Two nonhistone proteins with molecular weights of 63000, and 53000 were isolated from bovine cerebral cortex by polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis with a urea-acetic acid system, followed by extraction from the gel. These proteins have particularly large proportions of Ser, Gly and Glu, which represent 40% of total amino acids. Such amino acid compositions are unusual among nonhistone proteins. These proteins also contained 1.00 and 0.27% (w/w) phosphate/mg protein.
