I. persulcatus and I. ricinus ticks transmit virus transovarially and transphasely, but considerable virus losses occur. The virus is retained by from fractions to 5-10% larvae, 1 to 10-20% nymphs and 30-50% imago ticks under conditions that in the preceeding phase the infection rate was close to 100%. An infected female may give up to 1% infected imago of the next generation, but the probability of the virus loss is also high.
