Labor pathology and circadian rhythms

Labor pathology and circadian rhythms

Voprosy Okhrany Materinstva i Detstva 26(5): 58-60

Circadian variations [in humans] of the onset, termination and duration of labor were traced on 7027 observations. The majority of labors (59%) started during the night. Circadian rhythms of labor termination were less expressed, but in 53% of the cases delivery occurred during the day. In the course of 24 h there was a critical time interval from 1000 h-1900 h during which labor complications, directly or indirectly connected with disturbances of uterine contractility, were the most prevalent.
