Laboratory and greenhouse performance of baculovirus heliothis combined with feeding stimulants for control of neo nate tobacco budworm heliothis virescens

Mortality of neonate H. virescens (F.) larvae was enhanced when virus was applied to cotton in combination with commercial feeding stimulants. A cottonseed-based adjuvant was more effective than either virus alone or virus mixed with soybean flour when dispensed onto leaf disks or sprayed on whole plants in the greenhouse. Neonates were frequently observed feeding directly on bait particles without penetrating the leaf surface. Mortality resulting from different lengths of exposure to virus-treated surfaces was included in the spray mixture.
