Laboratory breeding of the predatory bug arma custos hemiptera pentatomidae and some aspects of its biology

Laboratory breeding of the predatory bug arma custos hemiptera pentatomidae and some aspects of its biology

Biologicheskie Nauki (Moscow) 20(4): 54-58

In connection with the possible use of the predatory bug A. custos (Asopinae) in biological control of crop pests, laboratory breeding and long-term maintenance were studied. A. custos were fed larvae and imagoes of > 80 spp. of insects, including yellow meal-worm beetles, Colorado beetles, honeycomb moths, Eurygaster integriceps and leaf-beetles. Best results were obtained with yellow meal-worm beetle larvae and honeycomb moth imagoes, in which temperatures of 26.degree.-28.degree. C, 70% relative humidity and long-day conditions (18 h light), development proceeded without diapause. The development cycle for 1 generation was 26-28 days. The entomophage was easily maintained for long periods at 4.degree.-5.degree. C.
