Laboratory clinical basis for the validity of storing blood in preservatives without levomycetin

Laboratory clinical basis for the validity of storing blood in preservatives without levomycetin

Problemy Gematologii i Perelivaniya Krovi 23(5): 55-57

The antibacterial activity of levomycetin in regard to the preservation of stored human blood for transfusion therapy was studied. The sensitivities of staphylococci, Escherichia coli and Pseudomonas aeruginosa to this antibiotic were determined. The effects of the addition of various blood preservatives were also studied. It is apparently not necessary to add levomycetin to stored blood if adequate hemopreservatives are employed.
