Laboratory evaluation of the molluscicidal properties of aridan an extract from tetrapleura tetraptera mimosaceae on bulinus globosus

Laboratory evaluation of the molluscicidal properties of aridan an extract from tetrapleura tetraptera mimosaceae on bulinus globosus

Journal of Parasitology 67(5): 713-716

In experiments to evaluate the molluscicidal properties of aridan, an extract of the plant T. tetraptera (Mimosaceae), newly hatched B. globosus [human schistosomiasis vector] were more susceptible than mature snails; no ovicidal activity was shown at molluscicidal concentrations. The molluscicidal potency of aridan remained relatively stable in the presence of various physicochemical factors. The LC50 of 1.94-2.65 ppm of the methanolic extract on B. globosus suggests the possible use of aridan for snail control in rural areas.
