Lactate dehydrogenase and its iso enzyme pattern in tumorigenesis of rat zymbal gland induced with di methyl benz a anthracene and 4 di methylamino stilbene

The activity of lactate dehydrogenase (LDH) and the pattern of its isoenzymes in different mammalian tissues change during various stages of their development and following malignant transformation. The induction of ear duct tumor with 7, 12-dimethylbenz (a)anthracene (DMBA) was greatly accelerated by feeding the animals a diet containing 4-dimethylaminostilbene (DAS). Such a systemic administration of both compounds evoked growth of a minute tumor without stomal reactions exclusively in the Zymbal glands, which developed later into a so-called ear duct tumor .apprx. 11 wk after the first injection of DMBA. Histochemical activity of LDH remained in the ear duct tumorigenesis and its total activity was not changed during transformation. The total activity of LDH and the pattern of its isoenzymes are observed on the Zymbal glands of control and combined-treatment animals at various stages of the tumorigenesis.
