To facilitate a rapidly accurate estimation of leaf area by the leaf-product method, leaf-area constants were developed by adopting the weighted regression technique. The model of weights proportional to the inverse square of actual leaf area was most precise. The leaf-area constants were 0.7688 for 'Gujarat Cot 10' cotton (G. hirsutum Linn.), 0.6883 for 'PS 16' greengram [V. radiata (Linn.) Wilczek], 0.7117 for 'T 9' blackgram [V. muntgo (Linn.) Hepper] and 0.7945 for 'SB 11' groundnut (A. hypogaea Linn.). Applications to yield calculation were discussed.
