Changes in water soluble content of the needles were determined during decomposition. Weight loss was analyzed as the result of the solubilization of insoluble compounds and of the disappearance of the soluble ones (by leaching and mineralization). Analyzing the rate of solubilization requires the intervention of the insolubilizing process (biotic and abiotic) and the incorporation of microbial changes (i.e., the white-rot colonization).
