Mechanical and physical properties of douglas fir pseudotsuga menziesii grown in new south wales australia

Australian Forest Research 9(3): 225-232

Mechanical and physical properties for small clear specimens from a sample of Douglas fir (P. menziesii (Mirb.) Franco) grown in New South Wales were studied and compared with information on Douglas fir grown elsewhere. The material tested was selected from one plantation of 45 yr old trees. The relationship between density and distance from pith was investigated. Wood strength in head logs tended to be somewhat lower than in butt logs. All strength properties of Douglas fir were comparable with and often higher than those reported from overseas.
