Microclimate in open swine facilities in hot humid conditions i. temperature and relative humidity

During dry and rainy seasons, the microclimate of six open swine facilities of an integrated center with capacity for 25,000 pigs was studied; maximum, mean, minimum, and range of temperature and relative humidity (RH) values were recorded. The open sheds confined the following zootechnic categories: farrowing accommodations, pre-fattening, fattening, growing females, sows and boars. Farrowing accomodations had low thermic levels during day hours in the dry season, what suggests the convenience of giving artificial heat to piglets in this period. Results indicate the necessity of applying constructive variants and devices in sheds for growing and fattening pigs, sows and boars, in terms of reducing high temperatures. Atmosphere saturation (100% RH) is a common phenomenon in swine facilities and occurs during dawn hours of both annual seasons.
