Multi channel thermistor cryo osmometer for determination of osmolarity of biological fluids

Schematics and a description are presented for a multi-channel thermistor cryoosmometer which was developed at the Leningrad Research Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion [USSR]. The apparatus was used in the determination of animal plasma and urine osmolarity during various traumas and for analysis of plasma substitute osmolarity. Osmolarity determination required 1-2 min and a small amount (0.2 ml) of sample. Osmolarity measurements of samples did not require preliminary calibration relative to standard solutions which eliminated problems in preparation and storage of standardized solutions.
