Abstract
The hair-dye component N-methylamino-2-nitro-4-N',N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)aminobenzene was investigated for mutagenic activity in S. typhimurium strains TA1535, TA100, TA1537, TA1538 and TA98. The testing was performed in the absence and presence of a rat-liver microsomal activation system induced by Aroclor 1254. N-methylamino-2-nitro-4-N',N'-bis(2-hydroxyethyl)aminobenzene apparently does not induce mutations in S. typhimurium strains, either in the absence or presence of the metabolic activation system. The purity of the compund was controlled by utilizing high-pressure liquid chromatography (HPLC) and TLC. [This study may be applicable to humans.].
