Using host genotypes of an isogenic nature, obtained by induced mutations, it was possible to select P. recondita tritici mutations induced by EMS for higher and lower virulence. The existence of crisscross interactions was indicated. Mutant frequency was used as mutation rate to estimate the minimum number of genes present in the host. The mutation rate for higher virulence was 50 times higher than that for lower virulence.
