Nutritional causes of low fertility in cattle with the metabolic profile test 1 normal values of the metabolic profile

The survey was performed to determine the normal values of the metabolic profile of Friesian cows reared in Piacenze province. Cows (1040) were studied (339 dry cows, 360 in early lactation and 341 in advanced lactation) in 52 farms, i.e., an average of 33% of the cows present (3120). Cows (761) of 38 farms were blood sampled in winter and 279 cows of 14 farms were sampled during the summer. The following analytical determinations were performed on each animal: hematocrit, Hb, Ca, Mg, Na, K, Zn, P, glucose, urea-N, total protein, albumin, globulin, ceruloplasmin, GOT [glutamic oxaloacetic transaminase], vitamin A and carotene.
