Observation of the inflorescence and crop biology of some pinus species iv. publication the phenophases of inflorescence and their properties

First the author analyzes the distribution of strobili in the crown of a tree and its change as a function of age and in respect of the species. Then it is followed by the description of the phenophases of the staminate and pistillate strobili. In case of both strobili 5-5 phenophases can be separated, shown in figures 2-11. Considering the characteristics of the species as well the following can be stated: 1. The distribution of strobili of different sexes in the crown and their relation to one another differs considerably. 2. These differences are caused primarily by species characteristics, the age of the individual and the effect of light conditions. 3. The differences in the phenophases of staminate srobili originate not only from the species but have anatomical causes as well. 4. With the species where the floral-bud develops outside the terminal bud, the harmful effects of frost may be greater. 5. With the pistillate strobili concerning all the species the maximum pollen intake may occur in the third phenophase (Fig. 9). 6. In the second phenophase there is an essential difference between the species of the Haploxylon and Diploxylon subgenus. In case of the former ones the pollen intake is already possible at this phase at the top part of the strobili.
