Observations on obtusiclava oryzae hymenoptera pteromalidae parasite of pachydiplosis oryzae diptera cecidomyiidae

Entomologica (Bari) 11: 81-86

Obtusiclava oryzae, an external parasite on the mature larvae and pupae of Pachydiplosis oryzae, was reared and studied in the laboratory. Mating and oviposition behavior was observed. The parasites laid their eggs singly in the silver shoots [of Oryza sativa L.] having 4th instar larvae or pupae of the host. The eggs hatched in 36-40 h; the larval and pupal periods lasted 8-10 and 5-6 days, respectively. There were 6-7 overlapping generations of the parasite. Extent of parasitism was quite moderate during the 5 yr study.
