Observations on the ultrastructure of storage cells in the potato tuber solanum tuberosum cultivar bintje

Observations on the ultrastructure of storage cells in the potato tuber solanum tuberosum cultivar bintje

Beitraege zur Biologie der Pflanzen 54(3): 467-475

Ultrastructural studies of the starch storage cells in potato tubers reveal large undulations of the plastid membranes and the plasmalemma extending far into the cytoplasm. The undulations of the plasmalemma most often take place adjacent to cell walls opposite to intercellular spaces. The cell walls, which often contain plasmodesmata with large median nodules, are sometimes dentate, thus having, like transfer-cells, an extended surface area.
