Soil erosion in relation to changing cover ratio of the surface of sloped farmland model was examined by crop model. The farmland model consists of a soil tank of 0.42 m width, 1.21 m length and 0.09 m depth. The soil used was weathering granite soil called MASA. The crop model was 2.5 .times. 2.5 cm and cover ratio was arranged in lattice-work fashion on the surface of the farmland model. The farmland model, on a sloped table, and several cover ratios and was set under a rainfall simulator. The quantity of soil erosion was related to the volume of soil running from the farmland model. The quantity of soil erosion from the covered farmland showed a linear decrease with increased cover ratio. The effective rate of cover is nearly equivalent. Soil erosion is affected by rainfall strength and degree of slope of farmland. The energy of rainfall on the farmland surface is changed by cover ratio. The cover on the surface of the farmland controls the run-off of fine soil.
