On the functional morphology of odontopus nigricornis heteroptera pyrrhocoridae part 4 functional anatomy of the salivary systems

On the functional morphology of odontopus nigricornis heteroptera pyrrhocoridae part 4 functional anatomy of the salivary systems

Journal of Animal Morphology and Physiology 24(2): 217-228

The principal salivary glands are 4-lobed. The anteroventral lobe differs from the rest in histology and secretion; its lumen functions in saliva dilution. The gland on either side is anteriorly connected to the post occiput and posteriorly, its chitinous covering develops a tough filament that connects the loop of the accessory salivary system applied to the first midgut. The latter is concerned with water disposal.
