On the genesis of nematocysts of polykrikos schwartzi

The ultrastructural study of nematocyst development rejects the hypothesis of cyclic formation (Chatton 1914, and re-adopted by Hovasse 1951). In 1972 Greuet showed that what had been called the cnidoplast by Chatton and supposed to be at the origin of the cycle, was a fully differentiated organelle for which the term toeniocyst was created. Altogether toeniocyst and nematocyst originated from the Golgi apparatus; they were connected with the mitochondrial system. The centrosome does not participate. These structures seem related to the silver ectoplasmic net of the dinoflagellate, and these relations allow the metamerizaion of kinetosomes to be understood.
