On the genus fungulodus conodonta

, : On the genus fungulodus conodonta. Acta Micropalaeontologica Sinica 4(4): 369-374

Abundant Late Devonian conodonts were recovered from the Daihua Formation in southern Ghizhou and northern Guangxi. Within these faunas there is a group of very small, morphologically distinct squat and cone elements. They were named Conchodontus by Wang and Yin (1984), but this name had been pre-occupied by Fungulodus Gagiev, 1979. Fish specialist Wang Shi-tao and Susan Turner (1985) suggested that Conchodontus was fish species, but they have never made thin sections nor have done any histological study with regard to this genus. The purpose of this study, therefore, is to point out how to distinguish conodonts from fish scales, in order to demonstrate that Fungulodus is definitely a conodont genus, with a discussion on their apparatuses.
