Opioids attenuate whereas naloxone enhances the prostaglandin e 2 induced gonadoliberin release from the median eminence area superfused in vitro

Neuroendocrinology Letters 8(3): 157-163

Opioids and prostaglandins exert opposite actions on the release of gonadoliberin [LHRH] from Median Eminence Area [MEA]. In this study we have shown that prostaglandin E2 [PGE2] stimulated the releae of LHRH whereas morphine and beta-endorphin significantly attenuated the stimulatory effect of PGE2. The effect of beta-endorphin was reversed by naloxone.
