Path coefficient analysis for some biometric traits in two rowed barley hordeum distichum

Studies on correlation and path-coefficient analysis were conducted in a collection of 34 strains of barley having diverse geographic and genetic origins. Grain yield exhibited positive and highly significant genotypic association with flag leaf area, number of grains per ear, length and width of grain and 1000-grain weight. Flag leaf area had the positive value of correlation with all the traits, therefore, larger flag leaf area could be considered to be an important criterion for selection of plant type having greater photosynthetic capacity. Path-coefficient analysis indicated that 1000-grain weight has direct influence on grain yield followed by number of grains per ear and width of grain. Therefore, priority should be given to these traits while making selection for higher grain yield in barley.
