Pento barbitone hypnosis during different stages of estrous cycle and sexual maturity in rats

In normally cyclic rats, duration of pentobarbitone-induced sleep was significantly shorter in proestrus and estrus phases than in metestrus and diestrus phases. Exogenous administration of estradiol significantly prolonged the duration of sleep in adult females but not in adult males. Duration of sleep in immature females and immature males was nearly the same.
