Phospho lipase a 2 from cobra venom surfactant activity and interaction with phospho lipid mono layers

A mechanism was suggested for the hydrolysis of structured lipids catalyzed by cobra venom phospholipase A2. Its essential feature was implication of a dimeric enzyme form in the elementary action. The role of a stepping motion in the dimer function was discussed with respect to a high rate of hydrolysis. Ca2+ decreased the activation energy for the enzyme-substrate complex dissociation, while being nonessential for the hydrolysis of phospholipids. The hydrolysis took place at higher values of surface tension in the presence of Sr ions.
