Photochemical reactions of beta carotene in haloid methane solutions

Photochemical reactions of .beta.-carotin in haloid methane solutions illuminated with visible light were discovered. It was found that photodestruction can be sensitized with triplet donors-Pd-mesoporphyrin and chlorophyll a. A conclusion was drawn that the primary event of the reaction is electron transfer from triplet-excited .beta.-carotin to CCl4 with the formation of radicals.
