Photocoagulation of circinate lesions in diabetic retinopathy

Argon laser photocoagulation was applied to 10 eyes in 10 diabetic patients with circinate lesions involving the macula. The circinate fatty deposits decreased in all the cases and completely disappeared in 7 eyes. The visual acuity improved in 4 eyes. In the majority of eyes without improvement in visual acuity, the macular deposits used to be very dense, suggesting that irreversible structural damage had occurred before laser treatment. The present findings are a further evidence that diabetic circinate retinopathy has to be treated at an early stage before seriously involving the macula.
