The aim of the investigation was the determination of the physical endurance limit (p.e.l.) and the W170 on healthy, untrained male and female youths between 16 and 18 years. For male youth the p.e.l. was reached at following values (.hivin.x .+-. S.D.): oxygen uptake 1093 .+-. 177 m .cntdot. min-1, heart rate 111 .+-. 9 beats - min-1, net heart rate 24 .+-. 5 beats .cntdot. min-1, mechanical load 52.7 .+-. 10.4 watts; W170 showed 172.1 .+-. 30.9 watts. The results for the female youth at the p.e.l. were (.hivin.x .+-. S.D.): oxygen uptake 981 .+-. 121 m .cntdot. min-1, heart rate 115 .+-. 11 beats .cntdot. min-1, net heart rate 28 .+-. 6 beats .cntdot. min-1, mechanical load 39.1 .+-. 7.2 watts. The W170 showed 126.2 .+-. 26.2 watts. Male juveniles aged between 16 and 18 years have developed only about 80% of the p.e.l. of adult men, whilst female juveniles of this age have developed almost the same p.e.l. as adult women.
