Studies on the reinvasion of an area of the Onchocerciasis Control Program by S. damnosum s.l. were followed up by means of sticky aluminium plaque traps. Several main features of the reinvasion were specified. The reinvasion began at the end of April and reached its maximum in June (1176 simulids/days). Reinvasion is a discontinuous phenomenon characterized by high peaks, which build up for 2 or 3 days and drop to lower levels a few days later. Reinvading populations were mainly composed of savanna species S. damnosum s.s. and S. sirbanum. A few flies belonging to forest species, probably S. soubrense, were found on several occasions. When considered catches obtained by both plaques and human bait it is possible to deduce that females lay their eggs, at the right time, in the reinvasion plaques and human bait it is possible to deduce that gravid females lay their eggs, in the reinvasion period, before taking another blood meal.
