Pleiotropy of beta lactoglobulin and casein genotypes on the yield of milk constituents in bavarian fleckvieh and braunvieh

Pleiotropy of beta lactoglobulin and casein genotypes on the yield of milk constituents in bavarian fleckvieh and braunvieh

Journal of Animal Breeding & Genetics 103(1): 33-45

The effects of .beta.-lactoglobulin and casein genotypes on milk, fat, whey protein, casein, and total protein yield was estimated on 2205 Bavarian Fleckvieh and 2036 Bavarian Braunvieh cows. The effects of the two populations were very similar and partially statistically significant. Antagonistic effects between milk yield and concentration of the milk constituents led in some cases to compensation on fat and protein yield.
