Population factors of the regulation of bank vole clethrionomys glareolus schreb. reproduction

Population factors of the regulation of bank vole clethrionomys glareolus schreb. reproduction

Doklady Akademii Nauk SSSR 291(1): 250-252

The effect of factors associated with the size and structure of a bank vole population on the reproductive potential of its population during the entire reproductive season was evaluated quantitatively in an experiment conducted near Tula, Russian SFSR, USSR, in 1966-1980. The factors associated with the population density affected bank vole reproductive potential for the most part in the summer months. Their role in reproduction was insignificant at the beginning and end of the reproductive season. The fluctuations in the population in various years were determined by changes in the reproductive intensity of young bank voles, for the most part, due to changes in sexual maturation rates.
