Preoptico hypophyseal neurosecretory system in certain fresh water teleosts an evolutionary approach

Bangladesh Journal of Zoology 15(1): 79-86

In the present paper the evolutionary sequence of preoptico-hypopysial neurosecretory system of Notopterus chitala, Clarias batrachus, Heteropneuestes fossilis, Ompok bimaculatus, Mystus cavasius, Silonia silondia, Mastacembelus armatus, and Channa gachua have been described on the basis of anterior shifting of nucleus preopticus. In the evolutionary sequence S. silondia and H. fossilis placed on 1st, M. cavasius on 2nd, N. chitala on 3rd, C. gachua and O. bimaculatus on 4th, M. armatus on 5th and C. batrachus on 6th position.
