Preparation of dust for intra tracheal administration to experimental animals
A method was elaborated for the preparation of dust for intratracheal administration to experimental animals; making it possible to process lump samples and isolate respirable fraction from industrial dusts. The method did not have high requirements (device and equipment) and may be used at all workplaces dealing with experimental silicosis or evaluation of fibrogenicity of industrial dusts. Main types of analyses necessary for defining the prepared dusts are described and some processes influencing fibrogenicity of the prepared fractions are presented. A unified method would make it possible to compare results obtained after intratracheal administration of dust in different laboratories.
