Preparation of n chloro 5 dimethylamino naphthalene 1 sulfonamide and its application as a fluorescence reagent for the detection of phenyl thio hydantoin amino acids

Journal of Chromatography 205(2): 349-354
Preparation of n chloro 5 dimethylamino naphthalene 1 sulfonamide and its application as a fluorescence reagent for the detection of phenyl thio hydantoin amino acids
N-Chloro-5-dimethylaminonaphthalene-1-sulfonamide (NCDA) was prepared by the action of sodium hypochlorite on dansyl. NCDA is non-fluorescent, but developed intense fluorescence on reaction with phenylthiohydantoinamino acid. About 40-60 pmol of phenylthiohydantoinamino acids were detected on thin-layer plates. NCDA was effective in the determination of phenylthiohydantoinamino acids on TLC.
