Preparation of racemic and optically active 13 thia chaulmoogric acid some of its homologues and racemic and optically active 12 thia homo chaulmoogric acid

Racemic isothiuronium chlorides 1 and 12 were prepared and resolved using optically active potassium mandelate. With racemic and resolved 1 and .omega.-bromoalkanoic acids as the starting materials, racemic and optically active 13-thiachaulmoogric acid 8 and a number of its racemic and optically active homologues were synthesized. Racemic and resolved 12 and .omega.-bromoundecanoic acid were employed for the preparation of racemic and optically active 12-thiahomochaulmoogric acid [which has medicinal properties].
