Preparation of some carbon 14 labeled sugars by radio photosynthesis using sugar beet beta vulgaris whole plant

, : Preparation of some carbon 14 labeled sugars by radio photosynthesis using sugar beet beta vulgaris whole plant. Microchemical Journal 29(1): 81-86

Uniformly labeled [14C]glucose, [14C]fructose and [14C]sucrose with specific activities of several .mu.Ci per mmol were photosynthetically prepared using the whole sugar beet plant. Smaller amounts of high specific activity sugars were found in the leaves while larger amounts with relatively lower specific activities were found in the root. The specific activity of the products could be significantly increased by increasing the specific activity of the initially used radioactive CO2.
