Prospects of using balanced sex linked lethals for the control of insect pests

A genetic method for control of injurious insects is described. Male insects heterotic for 2 balanced non-allelic Z lethals are released. After pairing of these males with wild females, 100% of the hybrid embryonic females die in the F1, 62.5% in the 1st Fb, 31.2% in the 2nd Fb and 15.6% in the 3rd Fb. The release of bi-lethal males will cause females of the population to die out.
