Prospidin in combination with tele gamma therapy in the treatment of esophageal carcinoma

Taking into consideration the effectiveness of the antineoplastic chemotherapeutic drug prospidin in squamous cell carcinoma and also its radiosensitizing property, this drug was used for the 1st time in combination with telegammatherapy for the treatment of 80 patients with esophageal carcinoma. The encouraging immediate results of the treatment were obtained. Complete regression of the tumor was noted in 35% of the patients, considerable regression in 35%. Taking into consideration favorable results of treating patients with esophageal carcinoma and little toxicity of the drug, the use of prospidin in a dose of 100 mg (totally 3 g) in combination with telegammatherapy (200 rad daily, 6000 rad for a complete split course of treatment) for the treatment of patients with esophageal carcinoma is recommended.
