Abstract
Chloroplast elongation factor Tu (EF-Tuchl) was purified from chloroplasts of F2 plants of an interspecific somatic hybrid between N. tabacum and N. rustica. The protein was purified .apprx. 90-fold with a recovery of .apprx. 15% of the activity. By polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis, the MW of EF-Tuchl appears to be .apprx. 45,000. Similar values were found for the EF-Tu isolated from chloroplasts of the parent species. EF-Tuchl from the Nicotiana hybrid was immunoprecipitated by an antiserum raised against the spinach protein.
