High-speed countercurrent chromatography (CC) has been used to prepare preparative amounts of pure magenta azo dyes by a method involving the continuous extraction of an aqueous solution of the dyes by a suitable mobile phase. This slight variation in the normal way of running CCC separations permits both the removal of the impurities from the desired color component and an increase in the quantity of dye that can be purified in a single experiment.
