RAST [radioallergosorbent test] inhibition, 2-dimensional immunoelectrophoresis (2de) and analytical isoelectric focusing were compared for their sensitivity in detectng contamination between grass [Phleum pratense and Dactylis glomerata] pollen extracts. RAST inhibition and 2de proved unsuitable for the detection of contamination between these closely related allergenic extracts, but analytical isoelectric focusing may be used to detect differences in protein profiles between pure and contaminated extracts.
