Radiotherapy for lingual cancer. A clinical evaluation
In the Department of Radiology, Kyushu University, 103 cases of carcinoma of the tongue were treated mainly by surgery from 1961 to October 1978, and 145 cases were treated mainly by interstitial radiotherapy from November 1978 to 1983. The 5 year actuarial survival rates from 1961 to 1978 were 70%, 66%, 51% and 22% for stages I, II, III, and IV, respectively. From 1978 to 1983 they were 93%, 54%, 74%, and 41% (3 years), respectively. By logrank test, the rates for the latter were significantly improved over the former period (p < 0.05).
