Rapid high performance liquid chromatography analysis of paracetamol acetaminophen in blood and post mortem viscera

Rapid high performance liquid chromatography analysis of paracetamol acetaminophen in blood and post mortem viscera

Journal of Analytical Toxicology 5(3): 118-121

Paracetamol is hepatotoxic when ingested in large quantities. Procedures for rapid screening and quantitation of paracetamol in human biological material, including whole blood and liver tissue, were developed. The protein in the samples was precipitated by dilution with a mixture of ethanol and ethyl acetate. The sample was centrifuged and analyzed directly. Quantitative analysis was carried out by HPLC [high performance liquid chromatography] following rapid screening by HPLC or a colorimetric procedure. The colorimetric procedure may be operated in batches and is recommended for screening large numbers of samples in a forensic laboratory. The HPLC screening procedure is sufficiently quantitative to recommended for acute emergencies in hospitals.
